FULL EVENT DESCRIPTION
Not new anymore, TwistedRoots Haunted Trail is now established in Muskogee, and it returns for the current spooky season with the same outdoor, woods-based format it’s known for. This is a fully walking haunted trail on a large property, promoted as a nearly mile-long route with twists, turns, and set pieces built into the path. Since it’s an outdoor hike, it’s the kind of attraction where proper shoes and a little stamina matter.
TwistedRoots also positions itself as an operation with history, not a brand-new pop-up. Before settling in Muskogee, the team previously ran versions of the haunt in other Oklahoma locations, and the Muskogee trail continues that evolution with its own storyline and theme built around what you encounter along the route.
This is not framed as a kids-first haunt. TwistedRoots is commonly described as not recommended for young children or the faint of heart, and it’s best suited for groups who want a longer outdoor experience rather than a short, indoor run-through. If you’re looking for frightful entertainment that leans on real woods, distance, and a steady build of scares, TwistedRoots in Muskogee is designed for that kind of night.
EVENT HISTORY
TwistedRoots Haunted Trail was built by a crew with a long-running interest in haunted houses and a goal of creating a creative outlet with a like-minded team. On their official timeline, they describe it as taking 14 years to find a permanent home base, and they state that Muskogee, Oklahoma is where the attraction is now permanently located.
Their “twisted history” starts with Twisted Roots Haunted Trail in Ada (2010–2012), which they describe as their first attempt at a professional haunted attraction and an outdoor walking trail. They later shifted indoors with Twisted Roots Haunted Hills in Chelsea (2018), where they say they converted an old VFW dance hall into a 5,000 sq. ft. maze. The Chelsea concept was themed around a rundown apartment building overtaken by designer drugs, and they note that the building ultimately was not suitable to continue because the required fixes were beyond their budget.
After closing the Chelsea chapter, they report a 2019–2020 partnership with Oklahoma Asylum in Nowata, where they helped with directing and credit the experience as an important step in their growth. Their timeline then moves to the present, stating they “landed in Muskogee” on a 30-acre property and rebranded into what is now TwistedRoots Haunted Trail.
